ABOUT

Instructional Goal

The goal of instruction is...

...for students to be highly proficient with solving all types of algebraic equations, with an emphasis on quadratic equations. Instruction aims to develop student skills and understanding, rather than memorizing and regurgitating steps and procedures. Students will utilize online tools to visually develop an understanding of what solving an equation means prior to algebraically solving one. Inevitably, students will be able to demonstrate mastery by showing their ability to apply their knowledge of solving algebraic equations to new and different scenarios, which are often found in other math courses such as Geometry and beyond. In order to reach this end goal, students will be exposed to a variety of teaching and learning strategies. Students will be guided through making connections and recalling prior knowledge. The unit will focus mostly on student centered learning. Students will work individually, in groups, take part in discussion, take risks, interact with new material, critique the work of peers, make any necessary adjustments based on feedback from peers, create models to help commit concepts to memory, play games, and develop their own understanding of new material. Student will take ownership and responsibility for their own learning as we progress through this instructional unit.
