Lesson #2

Solving One & Two Step Equations Graphically - 60 minutes

Materials Needed: Chromebook, pencil, worksheet

Objective: With guidance, Students will utilize graphing technology to make connections and develop an understanding to what it means to solve an equation.

Warm-Up (15 minutes):

Students will graph y=3x+1 and y=-1/2x=4 on Desmos and engage in discussion about what they notice and what they wonder about the graphs.

Instruction (35 minutes):

Students will be guided through the discovery of solving equations graphically on Desmos.  Students will explore what it means to solve an equation, and they will make predictions and generate conclusions.  Students will work at their own pace.

Closure (10 minutes):

Students will discuss their findings and review questions from the warm-up.

For homework, students will summarize what they learned and generalize what it means to solve an equation, as well as solve an equation.
