Lesson #7

Practice Solving Equations ALL - 60 minutes

Materials Needed: Expo marker, whiteboard, Chromebook, basic function calculator

Objective: In groups, students will develop methods to recall the quadratic formula, as well as determine which method is appropriate for given scenarios and utilize both the quadratic formula and zero-product property to solve equations.

Objective: Students will utilize and apply prior knowledge, along with new skills developed surrounding one and two step equations, in order to solve non-routine problems.

Warm-Up (15 minutes):

On a whiteboard, students will develop their own test like question.

Students which switch whiteboards with a peer and solve someone else's test question.

Finally, student to switch one more time with a new peer and check their work.

Instruction (40 minutes):

Students will not be learning any new content today, just reviewing and demonstrating their level understanding of the content this unit.

Students will utilize a series of Edpuzzle videos to review concepts, as well as solve equations. Students will work at their own pace, as well as choose their level of rigor.

1. One and Two Step Equations

2. Factoring.

3.  Quadratic Formula.

4.  Challenging Word Problems & Applications

Closure (5 minutes):

Tomorrow students will be given a final formal assessment on content in the form of multiple choice and open-ended questions. The assessment will cover operations, inverse operations, solving one and two step equations, properties of quadratics, quadratic formula, and zero-product property.
